Commission Approvals: Where Ordinance Meets Intention
At Meraki Architects, our role doesn’t end with drawings—it extends into the fine print. One of the most critical phases of any project is preparing the contract between Owner and Contractor. It’s where expectations are formalized, protections are embedded, and trust is built.
We use the AIA A101 Standard Agreement and A201 General Conditions as our foundation. These documents aren’t just legal scaffolding—they’re the architecture of accountability. A101 outlines the terms, scope, and cost of the work, while A201 provides the rules of engagement: how changes are handled, how disputes are resolved, and how responsibilities are shared.
Our job is to represent the Owner’s best interest throughout. That means:
- Anticipating potential risks and embedding safeguards
- Ensuring the scope is clearly defined and aligned with the design intent
- Reviewing schedules and payment terms to avoid surprises
- Clarifying roles so that communication flows smoothly during construction
We also help translate legal language into plain English, so Owners feel empowered—not overwhelmed. And when questions arise, we’re there to interpret, advise, and advocate.
Contracts may seem dry, but they’re where care meets clarity. At Meraki, we treat them as design tools—crafted to protect relationships, honor the project’s spirit, and ensure that what’s built reflects what was promised.
Because process matters. And protection is part of the design.
